Effect of site conditions on the properties of hawthorn (Crataegus azarolus L.) wood

This study investigated the influence of site conditions on physical and morphological properties hawthorn (Crataegus azarolus L.) wood grown in Zagros forests Iran. Hawthorn is a valuable woody species Iran’s with data deficiency its properties. To our best knowledge, there no wood. Twenty-seven mature trees were randomly chosen sampled at three altitude levels (1 800–2 000, 2 000–2 200, 200–2 400 m) Bazoft region Chaharmahal Va Bakhtiari, Dry density, volumetric shrinkage, fibre length, diameter, cell wall thickness then determined. Multivariate analysis variance (MANOVA) was conducted to evaluate significant differences between mean values studied different slope classes. Moreover, relationships above-mentioned some (temperature, precipitation, altitude, slope) as well growth parameters (tree height, DBH, age, crown dimensions, volume, etc.) by principal component (PCA). The results indicated that growing second level had highest oven-dry density values, those third lowest ones. Results also effect thickness. In contrast, difference found diameter PCA temperature are most important environmental variables affecting characteristics.
